Bike week 2024

National Bike Week 2024 runs from 10th to 16th July and the theme is "Be a Bike Hero"

As a thank you for being a hero on your bike and for the pupils, as a token of thanks use code "BIKEHERO" for £10 off your first years annual membership for this week.

Have a look below to see how you can raise the profile of cycling with staff at your place of work and support those who already do with some great ideas.

Remember to share our blogs about the benefits of cycling and letter to schools to help grow the community even further.

Ideas for staff

Group Commute

Find a place to meet up and ride in together.

This could be a public car park in the next town or village.

Speak to a neighbouring school and see if you can do a car park swap, where staff meet at the other school and ride a route past each other to their schools.

Plan the route for quiet lanes or cycle routes, setting a departure time that allows for changing and a puncture too.

Social Loop

Pick the best weather and non-meeting day.

Plan a circular route from your school, maybe include a coffee stop halfway round too.

Pick a flat and quiet route, this could be the start of something great to get more and more staff involved in.

Could you include a couple of different groups for speeds and confidence?

Bike Check

If you're competent and confident enough, help out your fellow staff with bike checks. Staff can bring their bikes to school for you to help get them ride ready before a group commute or social loop

Skills session

Set up a skills session in your playground or (empty) car park for staff in improve their bike handling skills and increase their confidence.

This could even include fun games like relays and races!

Lunch time ride

If your lunch time is long enough, you might even get a chance to lead a staff lunchtime ride. Pick a short loop to a cafe or similar and make it even more enjoyable.

Spin session

Could you host a spin session in your school gym or equivalent? This could help get staff involved who don't fell confident enough to ride outside. You could even set up distance challenges and department events, which department can ride the furthest?
