Graham’s Feature #Frideday

Graham’s our newest Ambassador, as an experienced headteacher, rider and event organiser, he’s going to bring another layer to the team. Based in the North West, Graham has a huge variety of rides that he can access, so keep your eyes peeled for the meet ups.

- what’s your current teaching position/subject: Headteacher- Primary

- what’s your current focus in education? Making our school as effective as possible whilst maintaining that balance of academic and social success.

- how does riding help you?

Always ridden bikes and then 12 years ago started taking it more seriously, racing and training using a coach to get the most out of it I could. Always found the time to get around 7-10 hrs in a week. Feel by committing to something other than work (and family of course) it gives you that focus and time to develop a healthy balance. Still manage that as a HT,  but less focused on results, more the enjoyment of riding different types of bikes and always feeling better having done so!

- why did you apply to be an ambassador/what would you like to do as an ambassador?

- always enjoy speaking the joy of riding a bike. Have been active member of local club- Barrow Central Wheelers for many years and enjoy organising events and races. Been the same as a teacher, encouraging children to ride and enjoy being outdoors. If can do that as part of this network and get teachers out and about, then even better!

- what do you think is special about TCC?

Think a welcome addition to the ‘social’ teaching groups and been impressed with the organisation.

- what are your current bike(s) and dream bike:

Enigma Titanium road bike (pretence I won’t need another one) Scott GRVL, On One Cx, Scott MTB, Dawes Steel Workhorse, Dolan Fixed…and a 35 year old tandem! Dream bike…too many to name one!

- what’s your best cycling achievement or memory?

Racing consistently for past 12 years. Organising many races, being part of a successful cycling network and keeping on enjoying the joy of bikes from childhood to adulthood.

- what’s your best teaching achievement or memory?

Probably leading my local school, creating a positive atmosphere and recent successful ofsted

- do you have a golden tip for teaching and/or cycling?

Consistency! Don’t strive for perfection, keep turning up and work hard. Enjoy the process…
