- What’s your current teaching position/subject:
I am currently a member of the Senior Leadership Team and lead Phase 2. As well as this I am Head of English and lead on after school clubs, as well as organiser of our Prizegiving event at the end of the year.
- What’s your current focus in education?
My current focus is to organise and host our inaugural Drama Day where I have invited in some local primary schools. I have invited in some amazing performing arts specialists who I have seen firsthand and know how engaging they are with the children.
- Why did you apply to be an ambassador/what would you like to do as an ambassador?
The reason for choosing to be an ambassador is because I am passionate about fitness and I love cycling and running as often as possible. I want to try to 'spread the love' and help motivate others to give one of these sports a go. I have, on the odd occasion, managed to get some of my colleagues out running or cycling with me and during lockdown we went out walking together as it was really good for the body, mind and soul. I'm really looking forward to leading a few rides and meeting like minded people who share my passion.
- How does riding help you?
I love cycling and whether I am going out on a solo ride or with friends or the club, it just makes me feel great. There's nothing quite like it to make you feel good. The little things you notice when you're out on a ride, like trees coming into blossom, frost on the ground, the direction the wind is blowing, new houses being built, the farming seasons and just how light or heavy drizzle really can be...It's only weather, but every cyclist notices it and talks about it passionately.
- What do you think is special about TCC?
Being a part of a community is really special and it helps promote wellbeing and a sense of 'I can do this' and helps to keep me motivated.
- What are your current bike(s) and your dream bike:
The bikes I have are: Giant TCR Advance 1 Pro - which I keep on the turbo for when the weather gets really bad... I ride a Colnago C64 which also happens to be my dream bike (love) and I recently purchased my first gravel bike which is a Reilly Gradient. I had the frame anodised bronze and it looks super cool! I also have a Specialised mountain bike which I love to ride through the forest. You really can never have enough bikes.
- What’s your best cycling achievement or memory?
I think my best cycling achievement was when I took part in the Tour of Cambridgeshire and I qualified for the World Championships. I didn't end up going, but it was a pretty awesome achievement for me.
- What’s your best teaching achievement or memory?
My best teaching achievement was and still is being a part of a school which has been 'Excellent' for a number of years and knowing that I have helped to get us where we are today.
- What’s your golden tip for cycling?
My top tip for cycling is to be consistent and never give up.
- What’s your golden tip for teaching?
My top tip for teaching is to make things fun. If the children are enjoying themselves they will learn so much more and they will remember it.
